What is tallow?
Tallow balm is a natural and nontoxic skin care product made from rendered animal fat. It's rich in nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin D, and essential fatty acids, making it an effective moisturizer and skin healer. You can use tallow on all skin types. Here are a few common skin conditions tallow is perfect for:
- Eczema
- Sunburn
- Dermatitis
- Diaper Rash
- Cracked Lips
- Psoriasis
- Rosacea
- Cuts/Scrapes
- Wrinkles
Suet tallow is fat surrounding the cow's kidney and is the most pure and nourishing tallow with the least-offensive smell, making it perfect for skincare.
Grass-fed suet tallow is high in fat-soluble vitamins like vitamins A, D, and K which have a profound impact on skin's overall health. Grass-fed tallow also contains Vitamin E (four times as much as grain-fed cows!), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which is anti-inflammatory, as well as palmitoleic acid, which has natural antimicrobial properties in addition to omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Tallow can nourish us from the inside out!
- Vitamin A – Encourages the production of collagen, elastin, and healthy skin cells & strengthens tissue to keep skin firm, smooth, and youthful while helping to heal skin issues from acne to aging.
- Vitamin D – Contributes to skin cell development, repair, metabolism, and immune function & protects and rejuvenates skin by protecting against free radicals that cause premature aging.
- Vitamin K – Plays an important role in skin tone, texture, and overall health + soothes skin inflammation and irritations while helping to speed up the healing process.
- Vitamin E – Powerful antioxidant that repairs and reverses free radical damage & deeply hydrates and promotes healing in skin’s appearance.
In addition to the fat-soluble vitamins mentioned above, tallow also has important nutrients that specifically nourish our skin.
- Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) – natural anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties
- Palmitoleic Acid (Omega 7) – one of the skin’s basic building blocks
- Palmitic Acid – improves the protective barrier function of skin
- Stearic Acid – repairs damaged skin, and improves skin’s flexibility and suppleness
Generally speaking, grass-fed foods have more nutritional value than grain-fed; fat is no exception. Grass-fed meat and fat have lower amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids and individual omega-6, along with higher amounts of omega-3. These fatty acids are incredibly nourishing for human skin and create the backbone of skin cells. This is why many people notice improvements to autoimmune conditions like rosacea and eczema after consistently using tallow on their skin!
Do you use any other ingredients?
The main ingredient in all of our products is suet tallow from 100% grass-fed and finished cows that were raised outside on pasture. Here are our other ingredients:
Organic Emu Oil
Emu oil is an incredible anti-inflammatory tool for our bodies. Emu oil can alleviate joint and muscle pain, relieve itchiness, and even speed up wound healing. In addition to its anti-inflammatory benefits, emu oil is fantastic for our skin. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles by delivering collagen and elastin to deep underlying layers of skin, lightens age spots, and even fades scars.
Even though emu oil is a highly effective and powerful ingredient, it is still gentle and safe for sensitive skin.
The emu oil we use is from suppliers that meet our stringent quality assurance standards. It is non-GMO and contains no parabens, fillers, additives, or fragrances.
Organic Mango Butter
Organic Mango Butter naturally contains Vitamins A and C, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. It has a smooth texture with a slightly sweet aroma, making this product excellent to use in lotions, body butters, balms, soaps, shaving creams, and hair care formulations.
We source our mango butter from organic, ethical farms.
Organic Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is derived from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, a perennial native to the North American deserts. The oil accounts for 50% of the jojoba seed and is extracted by cold-pressing, a process that helps maintain the rich nutritional value of the oil.
Jojoba oil has a similar molecular structure and composition to sebum, which the skin naturally produces for moisturization. It is loaded with antioxidants, such as vitamins A and E, and omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential components of the skin’s barrier. It also acts as a humectant, meaning it works to retain moisture in the skin.
Jojoba oil also contains antimicrobial properties that can ward off certain types of bacteria, making it an excellent choice for acne prone skin. Jojoba oil is naturally rich in vitamin E, a potent antioxidant that helps the skin defend itself against free radicals that can cause premature aging and skin damage. It’s also rich in amino acids, which are the building blocks of collagen. This results in the reduction of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improvements in skin texture, tone, and elasticity.
